"Quite an achievement", about First Movement, my Third String Quartet, with which I won the third prize in the Malta International Composition Competition 2015.

Prof. John M. Kennedy, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY,

LOS ANGELES (2015)

On the two 2019 releases by Aliud Records: "Amongst them Sipke Hoekstra; Colori performs his Sonatina, Holtrop his Bop Toccata. Both works  reveal fresh insights and daring structures and are performed with lots of flair."

On the Sonatina, performed by the Colori-on a release by Aliud Records: "[...] the playfull, transparent Sonatina for flute, oboe and marimba [...]"

About the Bop Toccata Klassieke Zaken wrote "an attractive mix of modern and baroque forms."

Gerard Scheltens in KLASSIEKE ZAKEN,

6th issue of 2019

"[This commission] resulted in Spectrum a 4, consisting of three contrasting parts, which premiered yesterday. After an opening movement full of moods and colours almost changing manically, with an at times hammering piano on a sub-surface which radiated nervousness, rest dominated.
The last movement resembled dancing photons, leading into a strong finale. Whoever thought to have found certainty, would find themselves surprised - for example by a compositional technique changing itself - and would soon find the musical course to be different than expected. Intriguing."

"[The composer] knows how to write in an idiomatic way for the instruments chosen, where especially playability and soundcombinations stand out. The composer commands different styles, which is, according to the committee, evidence of craftsmanship."

“It’s very clear that Hoekstra got his inspiration from Mozart, to whose music the piece [2nd String Quartet] is related. He must have had a great deal of fun elaborating on the “Leitmotiv’, which had haunted him for some time, turning it into this very appealing composition. Merry, colourful, rhythmical, musical and interesting from the start till the end. Sometimes the Quartet played this piece even with more enthusiasm than the other performed pieces […]”
